We all use different things as bookmarks, but the ones we come across in our library books can be quite unique!

Blood Test Card

Pictured below is a blood test card, with 5 shades for comparing a small blood sample. The card dates from 1950. Fortunately the blood sample itself was not left inside the book! The reverse of the blood test card gives instructions for its use.

Poison and Penicillin

Pictured are labels for poison, used by Dr Macgown of Millport (c. 1900). These labels were removed from Opera Hieronymi Fabricii (1628).

The final image shows a form that would have been used by doctors at the Victoria Infirmary in Glasgow to request a supply of penicillin (c. 1950).
