James fullarton was born in Glasgow and studied Drawing and Painting at Glasgow School of Art, graduating in 1969. Since then he was worked as a full-time artist and lives in Ayrshire. He is a regular exhibitor with the Royal Glasgow Institute of Fine Arts and has exhibited at the Royal Scottish Academy, as well as lecturing for the Scottish Arts Council. His vibrant use of colour and bold brush strokes associate his work with that of the Scottish Colourists.
