Astra Pharmaceuticals was founded in 1913 in Södertälje, Stockholm by a group of 400 doctors and apothecaries (Referenceforbusiness.com, n.d.).

In 1999, the company merged with Uk-based Zeneca Plc to create AstraZeneca (AstraZeneca, 2019).
