Blunt Hook and Crotchet

Description

An instrument used for craniotomy and breech delivery. Craniotomy is the surgical removal of a portion of the skull and breech delivery is when a baby is delivered in feet-first position.

The blunt hook and crotchet were first combined into one instrument by Scottish obstetrician William Smellie (1697-1763).
