James Harrigan was born in Ayr in 1937 and has continued to live in Ayrshire throughout his life. He studied Drawing and Painting at Glasgow School of Art, and later gained a diploma in Printmaking. He taught art for many years before becoming a full-time artist. He has exhibited widely throughout the UK, and is best known for his paintings of local scenery on the west coast of Scotland.
