Words of Hope and Kindness
The past twelve months have been like no other in our history. As we begin to look forward to how we recover from the COVID-19 pandemic, we can seek inspiration in the words of College founder Peter Lowe:
“Only upon this hope I rest… that in goodwill and love I have done this” (1597)
Peter Lowe was writing about his motivation and desire to share knowledge and learning with colleagues. His words express humanity, hope and kindness. These words chime with President Jackie Taylor’s leadership on wellbeing for the health and care workforce.
From 2021-2022 we want to create a new exhibition in the College and online, inspired by Peter Lowe’s words. We want to fill the exhibition with words of hope and kindness from our College community – simple notes, letters, postcards, quotes, doodles, cards from patients, drawings pinned to notice boards – all expressions of goodwill and love that can see us through 2021 and into the future.
For this exhibition, we are particularly interested in handwritten contributions, in any format. Here’s what we’re looking for:
- Handwritten words of hope and kindness, in your first language and/or in English
- If you can’t send us the physical format, you can email a photograph of it
- Please include your full name, job title, and location on the contribution if you would like this information displayed.
Alternatively, please provide these details along with your College PID on a separate piece of paper.
We would also love short video contributions talking about moments that have encouraged you through the pandemic. You could even record a video explaining why your are submitting an item to the exhibition!
Contributions will be displayed in the College’s exhibition space in St Vincent Street, Glasgow, and on the website.
Contributions from fellows and members will be added to our archive – catalogued and preserved as part of the historical record of the College.
To post us your contribution, please address it to – Heritage Team, Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow, 232-242 St Vincent Street, Glasgow G2 5RJ
Alternatively, you can email a digital copy to us – firstname.lastname@example.org.
If you have any questions at all please do not hesitate to get in touch with us by email.
Thank you for being part of our story!
