Biographical Text

"The founder of this business, John Duncan, was born in 1780 in Kinross, Perth & Kinross, Scotland. [...] After a brief stay in London he returned to Scotland and in 1806 established a business on his own account in Perth [...] In 1818 Duncan took on a young man, Ogilvie, as a junior partner and the firm was named Duncan & Ogilvie. In 1820 a second shop was opened at 52 North Bridge, Edinburgh. [...] Both premises premises traded under the name Duncan & Ogilvie until 1832, when Ogilvie took over the Perth business on his own account and Duncan entered into a new partnership with one of his apprentices, William Flockhart, and another young man named Anderson."
