Our collection also tells the story of the students, Fellows and Members who have shaped the College over the centuries. We have fascinating medical instruments and equipment used by some of the most famous people associated with the College, including Joseph Lister, David Livingstone and William Macewen. These sit alongside a varied and often gruesome collection of surgical and dental instruments which help to show the progression and innovation made in surgical procedures from the 18th century onwards. Tinsmith Andrew Brown based in George Street, Glasgow was a familiar figure at the Glasgow Royal Infirmary during the last half of the 19th century/early years of the 20th century. As a boy he had worked for Joseph Lister when Lister was at the Glasgow Royal Infirmary. Brown’s sterilizers were used in the Glasgow Royal Infirmary and many nursing homes.
