Our collection also tells the story of the students, Fellows and Members who have shaped the College over the centuries. We have fascinating medical instruments and equipment used by some of the most famous people associated with the College, including Joseph Lister, David Livingstone and William Macewen. Title A name given to the resource Photograph of Gavin B Shaw Description An account of the resource Photograph of Gavin B Shaw, standing in a group photo. Gavin Shaw graduated from the University of Glasgow BSc in 1939 and MBChB in 1942. After serving in the Royal Naval Reserve during WW2, Shaw became Clinical Tutor in Medicine to the Regius Professor of the University of Glasgow. He held this position until 1948. He then became Senior Registrar in Medicine at the Southern General Hospital in Glasgow. In 1963 he became Consultant Physician and Cardiologist in charge of the wards at the Southern. He held this position until his retirement in 1984. He was president of the College from 1978 to 1980.
